Last Blog of the Year

Image
Well this is it, the last blog of the year. Next Monday is Christmas so no blog will be posted. In class we finished our leadership discussion so there are no current topics as of now. So I was thinking I talk about the New Year and some of my own goals. Many people make resolutions for the new year and never follow through with them, they either set unrealistic goals, or goals they know they are unlikely to complete. Me being one of these people, setting a goal to get a six pack, it is understandable why these resolutions never get completed. You start out good, go a week, maybe two, and bam! You realize how boring working out alone really is. I am one of the competitive types that has the most success trying to beat someones own success. If I run alone, I won't run as fast as if I was running next to a friend in a race. I don't think I would be able to do anything if I didn't have competitors. Now that i think about it, why do we actually celebrate the new year. All it

What is "bad"?

In English class we had a debate concerning the children involved in the book The Lord of The Flies.  The two topics discussed were whether Jack was an effective leader and if all of the kids were bad before the island. Today, I am just going to discuss the kids and if they were actually bad before the island because I did not get the chance to put forth all my ideas during class due to time restrictions. I believe the kids were not bad before the island. Many classmates argued against me but put forth redundant information such as the fact that kids made fun of Piggy. Teasing does not make a child bad, it makes them unethical. The definition of bad is  not such as to be hoped for or desired; unpleasant or unwelcome .   So technically the child should be declared as bad, right? But he isn't, one action doesn't  justify a persons overall behavior. So  then what makes an action good or bad? How far does something need to go for it to be bad? As I stated before,

Minimum Wage

In English class we are writing a research paper on issues within the world. The issue I selected was on minimum wage and how it shouldn't be increased. America is supposedly a capitalist country but it is between capitalism and socialism in reality. The government still regulates businesses, just not as much as a socialist economy would. I believe if minimum wage were increased, it would cause more economic distress. Look at it from the perspective of a business owner, if you are forced to pay people more, you lose money. So what do you do? You lose staff members to make up for the amount of money lost, thus creating less jobs. Or, since technology is so advanced, you fire all of your staff and spend that money on high tech robots that can do more than a normal employee could. More people would just be put out of work because of greed. It is understandable in some places that a higher minimum wage is needed because they cannot make ends meet. Some however, have suffici
